power loss

Guys just put a 2002 motor diesel with 100k in my 2001 2500 ram truck I was taking it out for a long run to check out performance and was traveling in 5th gear and lost acceleration power the motor was still running I shifted down to 4th continued to loose power, quickly shifted to 3rd and it cleared up and started to run fine. Truck starts fine and runs okay except now Im getting a humming or surge noise when I am running at a constant speed. Dodge cummins mechanic said it was probably the fuel filter so I changed it out still not working correctly. I think it may be the fuel pick up pump any ideas

Check fuel flow and volumn to injection pump should be 45oz in 25 seconds without any bubbles. If you still have external fuel pump below fuel filter housing these have been causing the high pressure (VP44)injection pumps to fail. Best to replace with in tank fuel pump or retrofit pump.
