Unhappy parked in parksville

Coming home from work yesterday the truck just died under acceleration and would not start. I towed it to the local garage and they replaced the low pressure fuel pump as the original was not working. Still no go. They are not too familiar with diesels and do not have any diagnostic equipment for them. The fuel is barely getting to the injectors. What is the correct procedure to bleed the air from the injector pump? Does this sound like an injector pump failure? Lastly, can someone reccomend where to get a new injector pump from that will ship to Canada? Truck is a 2000 one ton dually
Thanks in advance

Gronk,

Can you hear the lift pump run when you turn on the key or bump the starter? (on a starter bump you should hear it run for 20+ seconds)

First, you need to bleed the injectors....to make sure you do not have air trapped in the fuel lines. You need at least three cylinders firing to be able to start the engine. Crack lines 1, 3, and 5, or 2, 4, and 6. Wait till all three squirt and then tighten them up. It should start and run rough until the air is purged out of the remaining three. This will tell you if the lift pump is running. Alternately, you can check fuel pressure at the test port (the one with the schraeder fitting) on the injector pump (but this does require a special hose or fitting).

You can extract codes by taking it to the dealer (that doesnt sound like it will work), scan it with a generic code reader, or try the key on/off trick (this may or may not show all codes).

Personally, I wouldnt buy an injector pump unless you are sure that is the problem....but yeah, http://www.piersdiesel.com/ or http://www.bd-power.com/ are probably your best bets and they are both in the Vancouver area.

If fuel is barely getting to the injectors and the truck just up and died on you on the freeway then I'm 99% certain that it's the injection pump.

I didnt want to be the one to break the bad news to him.....

Gronk, you could probably have avoided this with a fuel pressure guage. What happens is the lp dies, the injector pump over heats and dies as well. Good Luck - I heard some horror stories about that dealership in Nanaimo.

I get you in touch with a guy around Parksville that can get you a VP-44. PM me if you are interested.
