Paint Stripper
Paint Stripper
I have to get my bumper stripped back down to bare metal for repaint. I have used some gel types and it seams like nothing really works. I tried using a wire wheel in a disc grinder but that makes it all burn into the metal and then I have to scratch pad all that off anyhow. I really need to get this done so it can be painted. Right now it looks really bad and is covered with all that gooey gel. Does anyone have anyideas other than bead blasting and then painting? The more DIY friendly it is the better. Thanks.
Try getting a good scuff on it before you put on the stripper, that should allow the stripper to penetrate deeper. Also, I've found that some brands don't really work. I've used aircraft stripper with a lot of success including taking off some tough powder coating. Whichever way you go, you'll probably wind up putting several coats on it to get it competely clean.
P.S. You might also check out Eastwood's forum. There are a lot of knowledgeable people there relating specifically to paint.
