P2149 and CEL last night in transit

I got a P2149 CEL error driving back from a job last night. Initially I had lost power like it went into limp mode. A key cycle routine revealed the code and somehow diminished the problem enough to drive home. I have a job on Monday if I can get this thing on the road again. I have read many similar posts, so I have somewhat of a clue, but may need help with know gotcha's and cautions and testing specifics.

The truck still seems to run rough, although I made it home. The oil level is holding steady. I get an intermittent pop when accelerating. No other codes are present.

History: 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie 5.9L 24v Diesel, dually, 4x4, auto trans, 129k miles.

Replaced the #4 fuel injector at 98k miles along with the ABS module.

Replaced the #1 injector and the turbo at 126k miles. I also had to replace the ABS module a second time. A loose electrical connector caused intermittent and random codes and had to be diagnosed, cleaned, and reseated.

I had to replace the water pump at 128k miles.

I am getting frustrated with about $5000 in repairs this year. The budget is might thin right now.

How should I pursue the P2149 error?
Is the valve cover casket reusable if I remove the valve cover?
Which pins hare known to recess in side the connector? I have seen this on several posts.
What temperature range must an IR thermometer cover to check exhaust ports? Any suggestions about which brand if I need to be economical?

One of two things. Bad ECM or bad injector #4, 5 or 6. Probably an injector. What happens is, an injector will short out and the ECM controls the injectors by isolating them down to 2 banks.

The poor mans way to find the problem. The problem has to be occuring:

Start the engine cold feel the manifold at the head, the cold one is the problem.

If #'s 123 or #'s 456 are all cold then proceed to the next step.

The attached picture shows the connector on the ouside of the valve cover, take the connector off and OHM out each connection as pictured for each injector, the bad injector should have more than 2 ohms.
