one wire oil p. switch where??
Re:one wire oil p. switch where??
On lunch at work and don't have my books and so I am just guessing here. Sometimes electrical items are case grounded and use the mounting bolts as ground and so your 1 lead is power. Some types of sensing equipment needs an excitation voltage and some do not. That would be the only reason I can come up with for now but will check some more when I get home. I may not be understanding your question completely, so get back if I am or just wait for my post later this evening. Good luck til then and you might try calling Cummins with this question.
Re:one wire oil p. switch where??
Partsman, I never even thought about the simple solution of a parts house giving out the wrong part. I like to troubleshoot. I have been teaching electronics for about 4 years now and just need to fix something or atleast get my hands dirty from time to time. Guess this site helps me to live vicariously through others. My truck has had small problems to keep me busy but now it seems to be doin fine, so I am bored. Sorry thumper but ditto on what Partsman said. Can't hurt to check that too! All else fails, post again and I'll get be more than happy to help yuh. Probably be checking into my books and posting the info I promised anyway. Seems like these posts stay around and just keep helping others after we have forgotten them.
Re:one wire oil p. switch where??
It's the correct part ,its thir modified sensor and then you refash to make it all work.
the one wire job just tells the ecm if thereis oil p. or not/no pot or vaiable.. I guess there is lots of problems with the actual veriable one thats why they came up with this ans.??

Re:one wire oil p. switch where??
Ok then, we know it is the right part but my old books show the old parts. 3 wires, 1 for power, 1 for ground and the third for signal. If I understand your description of what the 1 wire tells the computer correctly. Your wire is a discrete signal. Meaning it is high or low, on or off or got psi or don't. My question now is. Did he tell you how to hook it up or to what lead?
my guess is the grey/black wire(terminal C of old plug) because it was the lead assigned to transmit the PSI signal before. As mentioned above, the other 2 wires are ground and power and I doubt they are used in the new application. Hope this helps you but if they are going to reflash your computer ,they should be able to tell you how it needs to be hooked up. Sounds like an item for the TSB listings. Good luck

Re:one wire oil p. switch where??
thanks agan for the reply,
there in lies the problem.....where dose it hook up to? I do not know. they sell a harness adapter to make it all look pretty but as for the wire the instructions say put it in # 27 conecter hole which is all well and good. That conecter I am sure hooks back to the ecm. I looked all over for #s on the m.p.c. s but found ....none :'(
thanks ,,let me know what you know

Your just trying to get my goat now! ;D ;DBeing difficult to get along with is usually my role in any relationship and I am now having an identity crisis, thanks alot.
Just kidding of course and lets see if we can figure this one out. If the old sending unit connected to a connector of some kind and it is still there for you to look at, we have it made. There is the power supply wire(orange), the ground wire(black/light blue and the sensor signal(orange). I believe we want the later of the three and so trace the orange back to the ECM(drivers sider of engine just in behind the fuel filter. Look at the harness fo an orange wire but make sure it is the only orange wire! We should be able to tie into it there or at the old connector. I looked at my trucks ECM for some additional insight and didn't get much. Looks like a project of sorts though. Looks like you'd have to remove the fuel filter assembly to get a better look. My books don't give me a pin out for the ECM or show me where the connector starts or stops or couples with any other cables. I do see alot of wrapping and would tend to believe all the differnet wires get wrapped together for the connector going into the ECM. You can pull the leads out of this connector and then push your new one in but I don't know if any special tools are required for removal or installation. If you are in doubt about your warranty or the task at hand, you may want to get a shop to do this one. I also found out that the MAP sensor could be messing with ECM and getting it to show you a bad Oil Psi sending unit. Hate to say this but without being there and without ever trying this one for myself. I have to say it is your call on what to do next. If anyone reading this post has any ideas please chime in. I think the best idea is to splice into the old connector at the old sensors connector(safest bet and wont do any harm to the ECM connector). Sorry for getting all wishy washy but I am not sure on this and don't want to cost you anymore trouble or money than needed.

Re:one wire oil p. switch where??
This may be public knowledge to many but I am finding out these sort of things as I go and just wanted to share. Companies like Dodge are the sole Designing and manufacturing source for certain parts of the vehicle. The other stuff that they put on or into the truck is outsourced and put on at the factory once they find someone too make it to a specific criteria. Then it starts to cascade out from there, Such as cummins. Cummins makes the engines but orders out for sensors and controls that meet or exceed what the customer wants(Dodge). The other side is that Dodge will get the engine and then put there own sensors or controls on the CTD. Guess that makes any vehicle out there a MUTT(Heinz57). Since you have it all tore down and access is easy to the ECM and connectors. You may want to take a look at swapping out the wire going into the ECM connector. Good luck and your welcome but I don't think I really did all that much. It is my pleaseure and desire to help others as much as I can. Do un to others as you wish them to do to you(Golden Rule, etc.).
