One week old 07 - CEL, how to I pull codes?

I tried searching for "pulling codes" and didn't see an answer. Among the threads on different forums I've seen 2 methods but I don't get anywhere when I try them.

One says key on-acc, then on-acc, then on and the codes are supposed to show up in the odometer. I get nothing. A different version of the same thing says on-off, on-off, on but I don't see anything this way either.

Last method was press and hold the trip button while turing on the key. Some things display on the odometer but they don't look like trouble codes.

Can I pull the codes myself or do I need a code scanner to do it? I kind of want to know what they say so I know what's happening when I talk to the dealer.

Got it. You really have to cycle the key quickly. on off on off on about as fast as you can turn your wrist. The code is P0513, so I'll be looking that up in the drivetrain area.

OK, the code is for invalid skim key. The light came on while I was driving, not after an attempted start. Plus the key still works and starts the motor just fine.

Do you think it would be safe to reset everything by pulling the battery cables? Or is it important enough to take it in to the dealer?

That's what manufacturer's warranty is for.

One week old?
I'd let them see it before you do anything to cause them to try to void your warranty for an "Unauthorized Repair" or something.

Turns out I also have a P2000 code, which I think is a lot more serious than the skim key issue. I guess I'll be done in the long line of vehicles at the service door Monday morning.
