Ok need some advice for idling
This weekend, me and a bud are gonna drive to Big Bend Ntl Park and we plan on getting there in the wee hours of the morning...so its gonna be pretty darn cold (20-30's..hey thats cold for this south texas man).
We don't plan on getting a hotel, so we are gonna sleep in my truck.
My question is, would it harm my truck to let it sit there idling around 1200 or so rpm's via a stick. Now I know that I shouldn't let her idle at normal rpm's such as 800 for an extended period of time. We plan on sleeping in the truck til dawn, letting her idle around 1200 rpm's for 4-5 hrs.
Should I use the stick to keep her at 1200 rpm, or should I just tough it out, pack some extra blankets, and shut down my truck?
Any help would be great,
Hunter

Make sure you have Pablo paddle you across the river for $2 and drink a whole bunch of cerveza in the happening village of Boquillas....Lots of fun; we had a blast.
Anyways...tuff it out, get it good and warm before you shut it off and start it back up in the morning.
Enjoy your Spring Breaks while you can.

For cryin' out loud - it's one night! Hunter, you don't plan on making a habit of this sort of thing, do you? If not, just let it idle on its own, no stick. No sense keeping yourself awake and wasting lots of fuel at 1,200 - 1,500 RPM. Low idle is fine. You're not going to kill it overnight. Doing this sort of thing all the time is a bad idea, but one night isn't going to hurt anything.
Well, I know of one thing, I plan on taking matt's advice and drinking a few beers!!
I guess I'll make my buddy tuff it out and we'll shut her down.
Thanks for the info guys.
Keep on keeping on,
Hunter

I was told you couldnt die from sleeping in a diesel truck. And that a diesel doesn't put out near enough CO2 to kill someone especially in a leaky truck. Thats why semi drivers can sleep in theres all night. Not sure if this is true but just something I heard and thought I would share.

My guess is that the environment is aereated enough for the CO to disperse, with causing toxic conditions. Now if it were in an enclosed location, like a garage, then it would be a differnt story. My .$02.
