odd oil change

in the process of changin oil now. just pulled the filter and it was only half full. i have never seen this before whats the deal. only 5500 miles on oil, wix filter crankcase full. oil pressure is normal on dash guage. the gauge delays about 4 sec. after every crank is that normal. all other vehicles iv messed with the filter was slam full and leaks out. do i have a problem or am i worrying too much.

I find at work most filters are 3/4 to 1/2 full when removed.......unless it's a Mopar, Fleetguard, or Cummins filter. The yellow one, orange one, any napa, and a host of others make for a clean job when doing an oil change.

Most filters do not have a check valve in them and will drain back in about 1 hr.

that is also why it takes a few seconds to get oil pressure at start up... most filters like stated above allow the oil to drain back into the pan... k&n also has a valve to prevent this...
