Not sure what to check first...

Went out this morning to start my truck. All the dash indicators came on, wait to start, etc. Fuel pump hummed, but when I turned the key to start position..... nothing.

It has an aftermarket remote keyless entry system(Code Alarm) and it acts, to me, like it's not letting it start.

I need to check the batteries to be sure they are OK. I have not had any trouble with starting even though it's set for the last week. It was 40 deg. out this morning so that shouldn't have too much effect on it.

Any ideas of where to check after I check batteries? Thanks.

Man, my niece won't ride with me anywhere now, 'cause I told her the "rules of the road" are: In case of trouble, car won't start, run out of gas.... youngest one walks!!

By-pass the code alarm first. They are known to fail and cause this type of problem. Get a test light and monitor the voltage out from the ignition switch and out from the code alarm module. If you have output from the switch but not the alarm module, can the code alarm and buy something better.

Go down to the starter and check voltage there , both on the main POS battery cable , and on the signal wire for the solonoid (with the key in the start position)

your problem sounds like one that i had a few months ago , tried to start the truck to go to school , rolled over twice , and everything died, even my dash warning lights did not come on with cycling the key.

Turned out both batteries were toast , one had been dead for a while , and the other one shorted out when i tried to start it that morning.

Do the '01's have the starter fuse under the hood on the fender? Mine blew and did the same thing, but it's a '96.
