Unhappy No Shift to Overdrive - TPS replaced

I've replaced the TPS, unplugged the overdrive off switch, and checked for loose wires at the transmission.

Cruise control, and the speedometer work. Need ideas as to where to look next.

This is on the Hotshot truck.

Thanks

Dave

I think the only things that could keep it out of overdrive are the TPS (1v at idle, 2.9 max at WOT) and the temp sender on the trans cooler line. You can take that out of the picture with a 1k resistor across the terminals.

i dont know about 12v but i had a 24v that did the same thing, i replaced tps and it didnt fix it...the truck would jsut go in out of lock up, it felt like i was jsut sitting there pushng the o/d button like crazy. unplug the alternator and see if it still does it. we did that on mine and it wouldnt do it( why i dont know) BUT that isnt a permanent fix, more like an hour fix.

i tired many different things. the alt made it stop, but you need the alt. put nosie filters on some wires, isolated others. its really just guessing on which oens do it. brought it to dodge and they calmed it down a little.....excpet mine might have been a little bit worse off than yours

I had the same problem with my 95' 3500 DRW. in and out of OD non stop then.........no OD at all. I looked high and low replaced the TPS checked everything. ended up that my brake light switch under the dash was just out of adjustment enough to make things think the brakes were on. Who knows?!! that might fix yours.

GOOD LUCK

when it happened to mine it ended up being a problem inside the tranny. I got some air due to a faulty deep pan. My reverse went out a while later, (about a week)

at anything below 50* temp my 95 with a BD tranny would not shift into O/D for about 5 miles. make sure you are giving it ample time to warm up. this is a built in safety factor. crossy

Unfortunately this problem is there no matter how long it has been running it was on its way to FL when the problem started. I am taking it up to Dave at Goerend Transmission on Tuesday. I expect to have the answer to the problem then.

As a side note. I when so far as to splice a wire into the brown wire on the eight pin connector with the other end switched to ground up in the cab and bring the truck up to speed and switch the ground on and still no overdrive. Leading me to the conculsion that it has to be internal in the transmission.

I have a feeling that it will show up that some air got into the system or something to that effect

If it still won't go into OD when you manually switch it in the cab, the OD solenoid must not be working.

Lance,
I do not know. Goerend Trans covered it under the warranty. If you need a Dodge automatic tranny worked on / set up to survive the Cummins motor they are the best that I've found, and they stand behind their work. 100%
