No o/d...

Truck started dropping out of o/d on me today , and eventuallyit just stayed out of o/d.

IF i put the pedal right on the floor , it will go into o/d , but as soon as i let off , no o/d.

Any idea's? i am thinking tps?

I'm thinking you're right. Try adjusting it first, I'm not sure of the procedure on a 2nd gen but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Thanks for the advise Dave, i found some info through the search on adjusting it , my problem right now is that my multimeter is in one of our machines out in the field , and i have no way to get to it now...

Mike is out of the town at the present moment , or i would borrow his , i'm going to try cleaning it and playing around with adjustment and see if i can't get something out of it.

I need o/d to go to work tomorrow , so i'm in a real pickle here right now...

It'll run 100 km/h in direct drive, it'll sound awful to you but it won't hurt a thing. The ones in bigger trucks run around on the governor all the time. If you can't get it to go into O/D, just put in a set of earplugs and drive it until you can fix it.

Not likely to overheat the trans fluid this time of year, but it will burn more fuel than usual.

I know it will run 100 in direct, but it's already hard enough on fuel

I got my o/d back , for now anyways , i pulled the tps , and tried to pry it apart , no go , so i drilled a hole in the back and filled it with electrical cleaner, shook it up and dumped it out. I replaced it on the truck and tested it (i don't have a volt meter on hand), it will go into o/d and stay there. When it is cold, to get the first application of o/d , i have to let it warm up for a mile or so , then rev it up and let off , then get back on the throttle and it is in o/d. I think that will go away once i adjust the TPS , i ran out of cleaner too , so i am going to get more, and clean it really good , then seal the hole back up.

Thanks for all the help guys!

It isn't going into od in the first cold mile because the tranny temp sensor is telling it not to lock up. Trans fluid temp needs to be at least 70F for lock up.
Totally normal.

See what happens when you ask somebone who actually knows what he is talking about? You get the right answer.

I knew it wouldn't go into o/d until it was warmed up, but should i have to let of the throttle to get it to shift? The other thing i have noticed since i had this truck , is when it is cold , it doesn't even like to go into 3rd gear, although (might be my imagintion) it seems to be working better since i cleaned the TPS.
