J-Body, for us who are not familiar with the nomenclature, I take it DE platform is 03 up and BR is 02 down?

You should check the battery cable internal. Corrision can go the full length of a cable inside the covering and reduce its ability to carry a good current. A cable can look good but be bad inside.

Just change the cross over cable... piggy back it to the old cable with tie wraps.

Don't use Vinegar it is also a acid and will not neutralize the battery acid

You are right, I was wrong. Bleach would do the job and not be as messy as baking soda but would also need to be completly washed away as it is also corrosive.

also check the battery temp sensor under the drivers side battery. heard that if it goes bad it may cause the ecm to overcharge the batteries too

One thing you may wanna check - I heard this on another forum... A fellow had a John Deere tractor and he had an issue where he wasn't getting full voltage indication and after a while one of the batteries exploded. Apparently the battery was mislabled : + was really - and vice versa! Just wondering if the batteries you bought could have the same problem, but would be pretty freak coincidence for 2 to be that way... One way you can test this easily is stick your multimeter on the posts, red to + and black to -, if it shows a negative value then it's backwards.
