New Alt./tach sensorl location??

Question New Alt./tach sensorl location??

Hello, I had noticed i had no alt. output, bought new one, still no output.Notice came with new alt said dodge diesels check tach sensor.where its it?? will i need to replace it,or wiring dirty? 94 dodge 2500 4x4 , can i get alt to work by jumping out alt. post has small black plastic block with 2 tabs part of wire harness at alt. can i jump it out ? snow coming tonite must plow ! Thank you !

On your 94, you have a sensor located down on the front of the engine that is a hall effect switch that reads a notch in the damper. They get loose and create the problem you describe.

Do not jump the alternator field, it is not a 12 volt system but relies on lower regulation voltage from the ECM. You can install a regulator (do a search on this site for the part number and instructions) if the ECM is not properly regulating the field. But check the hall switch on the front of the crank first.

By the way, a doubled matchbook cover makes an excellent gap gauge if you do not have the correct brass feeler to reset the gap on the hall switch.
