Need some Tranny Advice

Well my tranny started acting up tonight. A little background. I have owned the truck for about 2 months now and the tranny has had no issues till tonight. Looks like the previous owner had a problem with the cooler lines rubbing together and getting a leak. He spliced new line in. I dont care for the way he did it, so I have working on a parts list to fix it. The past week or so I have been noticing it has started to leak around the compression fittings where they were spliced on the cooler lines. I have been checking the level of the fluid and all looks good. Fluid is very pink and does not smell burnt. Today I tightned the compression fittings up and looks like it has stopped leaking for now.

Well tonight I go to leave for work and it has a hard time shifting out of 1st gear. It is not slipping. It will just tach very high and if I let off it will shift into second. Once in second gear, it will work like normal. Anyone know what could cause this? First thing I though of was it might be low on fluid. I checked and it says it is full. It has been leaking so I know I have lost some fluid, but it still shows full on the dipstick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would tend to believe that the VB is giving you issues, could be something plugged up, or the solenoid going rogue; Have you dropped the pan and swapped out the filter? Might be a quick fix - a tranny expert will probably chime in here, but many posts that are similar to yours end up with a solenoid / governor being the fix....

Is the tranny stock? I put a VB in mine before adding the Edge, believing that this might give the stock tranny - rated at 420 ft-lbf of torque- some ability to survive the increases brought about by the Edge, and might give it a bit more longevity;

Recommend you call DTT and run your scenario by them, see what they recommend / diagnose

Good Luck!

Also rememer to check it with truck running in [B]neutral[B], not park, it does make a difference in the level. Pump dosent run in park so will check higher than it is.

Good point....I was checking in park. I am thinking and hoping it is just slightly low on fluid.

Had this same issue not too long ago. One of the bands had broke. $2k later and it's sure shifts nice again.

It would take off, but never shift. You could relaese the acc, then it would go on and shift and appear to run like normal from that point on.

Well I checked the fluid, this time in neutral. It was about a quart and a half low. I filled it up and that did not help the problem. I talked to a buddy of mine and he has seen a govenor valve/pressure sensor cause this problem. He said they get clogged up sometimes from debries. I dont know what to do at this point.

charliez....I'm guessing you just got a new tranny for $2k.

my vote is the gov pressure solenoid and/or gov pressure sensor.

change them in pairs.

mine went bad and never showed ANY codes.

When my gov pressure solenoid /gov pressure sensor went out, it left me in limp mode with no first gear and no overdrive.

Well I have a buddy coming over with a laptop/software and we're going to see what we can find. He talked to a guy that does his tranny work and they think it is the gov pressure solenoid and or the gov pressure sensor. I wish I could just put a new tranny in it. It has 140K on it. I'm sure its on its last leg.

when mine went bad mine would start in second gear and still had overdrive.

they can cause all types of problems

if you decide to change one, make sure you change the other at the same time.

when you hook it to the scanner you should be able to look at the GPS and tell right away if it's working.

let us know what u find.

What should I be looking for in the GPS? I am not sure really what I am looking at.

My guess would agree with 52 ****** the gov pressure soleniod. Pretty sure a tranny shop with a scanner would be able to diagnose it though.

Would a standard OBDII scanner work on the tranny? Where are the GPS located? is it mounted on the VB in the tranny? Reason i am asking is my VB is only 7 months old, it is a BD Valve body.
