I am going to have to change the u joints on my front axle. I called the dealer and the gave me an estimate of about 600. Called harmon 4x4 and sam's offroad here in tulsa OK and the have both told me about 500. Has anyone had and dealings with either of these places? Also how hard would this be to do at home ? Special tools needed?

 

Not hard, but definately big hammer work. No special tools needed. Do searches on this sight on u-joint and ball joint removal. There is a ton of info here. Even though youo will not be removing the ball joints, the procedure to get the axle shaft out is the same.

 

i would also look into renting a u joint press, makes it alot less painful......

 

I agree with sloth a press is the way to go. I just did mine they were $80 a peice at the dealer, dont buy cheap chinese ones. make sure none of the needle bearings fall down. Its pretty easy.
