Installation of E Brake by Jacobs

Installation of E Brake by Jacobs
I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 and have just purchased an E Brake by Jocobs. Included in the kit are heavy duty exhaust valve springs. I have quite a bit of experience doing heavy duty mechanical work including work on catipillar engines. Is there any reason I should not attempt to install the valve springs myself. The instructions recommends taking it to a Cummins Service facility. Does anyone out there have experience installing these valve springs. What problems might I have doing this myself? Thanks for any help.

Hi Sue,
I put these heavy duty valve springs on my 96 12 valve and had little trouble doing so. It is very important that the cylinder you are working on is at top dead center, or you can drop a valve down into the cylinder, and end up removing the head.
I ordered a small valve spring compressor from Napa auto parts, it was just the right height to fit under the cowling on the rear valves. If you decide to do this I am sure I can round up the part number.
I did it the hard way and removed the injectors, then verified each cylinder was at the top with a length of wire down in the cylinder. It does not have to be done this way, but I felt better knowing for sure before removing the valve spring.
This is a fairly straight up procedure, and barring any complications, most fairly mechanically inclined people could do it. Up to you to make that call.
Good luck!

It's a pretty good size job.
But if your a decient mech I'm sure you can do it.
There is no need to remove the injectors.
Pm me and I'll give you the procedure.
It's easy just involved.
I've done lots of them.
