Injection pump Trouble

Does anyone have any info about the VP44 problems. I have recently been having problems with my truck bucking when at full throttle. I have a fuel pressure gage and it stays above 5 psi. Today my check engine light came on, I pulled a DTC code using my Cummins Quickcheck, it was P1698 "Fuel Pump-ECM." Does this mean my Injection pump is getting ready to Die? What can I do to check it? Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Looks like you figured out the signature thing.

Fuel pressure shouldn't drop below 8psi.

Classic symptoms of a lift pump failing.

The P1698 code is (according to the source I use):
P1698 No CCD Messages Received From PCM

Most likely dirty connectors at the PCM.
(cheapest, easiest thing to check first)

The PCM is mounted on the passenger side firewall,
and has 3(?) connectors with many, many wires coming out of it.

If your "5psi" reading was taken at WOT, I would bet that it will still flow enough volumn to supply the VP. If the reading was at idle, yes, you need a lift pump.
