Impact Wrenches
Impact Wrenches
I am heading to the store in the morning to buy an Impact Wrench to remove the axle nuts on my 2001 2500 4X4 QC.
Will a 500 ft.lb. wrench be enough, or should I be looking at the 600 ft.lb. model?
I can get an Ingersol Rand kit with the Impact Wrench and Ratchet together for $139 at Lowes. It is the 500 ft.lb. IR.
Thanks,
JT

Need to consider the air compressor you have. The impact tool can only do what the air provided allows. The larger tools will need larger hoses even if the compressor will provide enough air.
Now you need to get a torque stick to go with your new impact wrench

Thanks, but
I'm using it on the HUB NUTS, not the LUG NUTS. I torque the lug nuts by hand, wouldn't think of running them down with the impact.

i just played around today with the front end..took off the front axle nut and the 4 12 point bolts behind the hub....axle nut came off with a 3 foot extension without any issues...the bolts behind the hub had to be heated and no problems either...all studs had to be torched to be punched out...if you're trycing to loosen the 4 nuts and/or punch out the studs then make sure u have a torch handy or else it may not happen
but maybe my truck's just old and has had alot of salt abuse but still be prepared...heating it makes it quite easy

I like the IR impacts and Chicago Pneumatic impacts alot, all the ones I've used work very well. But now my favorite is the Snap-on xt7100 impact wrench. It puts out 700 ft.lbs on tq and doesn't have a problem busting loose stubborn bolts. I got the snap-on one at work and use it in place of the 3/4 impact sometimes.
