Need a little more info, are they replacing king gear and pinion gear or just shims and bearings and seals. Just did my total cost of rebuild parts $768 Canadian sorry dont know about labour but would guess no more than 4 hours. Post back with parts list and I will get back to you with cost on Dana 70 prices I paid.

well, if it were me , i would investigate the cost and availability of buying a complete rearend-used and rebuilt. i believe that the 1/2 ton uses the chrysler 9 3/4 rear? a buddy of mine bought a used rearend for his last year from an auto parts rebuilder and it set him back like $900. with a 6 month warranty. i did the research for him and i can tell you that several places i called wanted like $1400. for a used unit with high miles and no warranty--so , if you go that route , shop around! also, if it were me , and i planned on keeping and maybe ''working the truck'' , i would investigate the feasability of getting a complete dana 60 rear or dana 70 out of a 3/4 ton-and making it fit (moving the spring perches, u joint or driveshaft change/modification). i mean, instead of paying 14 bills to rebuild your innerds-get something good for similar scratch -possibly.

I think I understand what you are asking and if there is a need to replace the carrier or the gear set then I can understand a higher cost but $1400 does sound pretty steep. If there is only some internal parts that need to be replaced, like clutches and retainers, then there is no need to reset the carrier or pinion so the cost would be minimal. That would probably be something that could be done at home, if there is any mechanical knowledge.
