Question help pulling transmission!

I am in the process of pulling my transmission and all i have to go by is a chilton manual which is pretty vague. It says to take the bolts out from the convertor to flex plate and pull converter and transmission as an assembly. How in the heck to you get those bolts out? I got one unscrewed but there is not enough room to get it all the way out. Please help.

readign ur post again...i think u didnt go through the access hole on the passenger side..on the passenger side of ur flex plate housing...u will be facing the rear wheels...u will see a mini plate maybe 2 or 3 inches long...2 bolts i believe...doesnt look like much...remove the bolts...this is where u access the TC bolts...turn the flex plate over with a screwdriver until the bolts line up with the hole...

Thanks Mr T. Just came in to check this site. Man is this a pain. All the bolts are rusted and really tough on all the crossmembers and linkage. Almost have the transfer case ready to pull. Thanks for the info again. Will keep checking back and I am sure I will have more questions before I get finished.

those bolts tend to get loose...happened to me...so i had to go in there and tighten them up...other guys have had to change the flex plate...so what could have happened is that the previous owner changed the flex plate out and put locktite on the bolts...unless ur the original owner....u have access through the passenger side hole though right?

Yea, I found the hole you told me about. As soon as I get the lines to the cooler out of the way, I can access them. Gonna call it a day and start fresh tomorrow. The reason I am pulling the tranny is because I think maybe the flex plate is bad. It makes a terrible noise when I put it in drive or reverse. Happened all of a sudden. It would still untrack on its own power, but I didnt drive it after it started making the noise. Hey while I am here I have another question. Should I take the transfer case linkage assembly off the transmission before I drop it? Or just take the linkage arm loose?

when u started wrenching on one of those bolts was it a little loose? if so then u could just tighten all the bolts ...i had a terrible racket of a noise all of a sudden one day...sounded like metla bangin near the oil pan...i thought what the heck is that?? scarrrrrrry noise...had it at all times in idle..and it would kinda go away if i revved it up some...anyway...everythign pointed to a cracked flex plate...but i started working on the bolts and they were all loose...so i tightened them real good and the engine sounds awesome...i never needed to move any lines to get to the access hole...i just had to twist real good...u dont need to see the bolt through the hole to know its there...u line them up by lining up a bolt with with arrow thats visible if u drop that bottom access plate to expose the TC...when u line a bolt up with that arrow , another bolt lines up in the hole...i used a longer socket and a 3/8 drive ...couldnt move the ratched more that 2 inches or so but that was plenty...worked for me best when i was under the truck not from the top..i just felt for the bolt with my fingers through the hole and put the socket on and cranked...i tried seeign if i could get at the bolt hole from the top but that didnt work for me
