Help on Jacobs Exhaust Brake

OK - I have my "it's 100 outside (at 9pm) and boy can I use a beer" Red Sox hat on. I'm missing something very obvious!

1. I mounted the selonoid bracket - only 2 of the well caps seem to have expanded - the bracket is pretty loose -am I holding my tongue wrong or what?

2. The more important question - how do I locate the PCM or ECM 50 pin connector? The darned instructions say I don't need pull the fuel filter assembly out of the way. All I see is a connector with a "void" sticker on it. Is that it?

Sigh!

Re:Help on Jacobs Exhaust Brake

The ECM 50-pin connector is virtually invisible until you remove the fuel filer/water separator. You don't have to remove the fuel lines, just the two bracket screws that hold it to the head. There is a screw that holds the connector to the ECM. The cavities are numbered, and they're arent that many empty cavities. The rubber plug was a bit*h to take out -- mine came out in pieces. once you snap the pin in and re-connect the ECM, you should be good to go.

OK - I'll attack it tomorrow. All that's left to do is: Push the current pin 20 out and insert the new one, mount the interior switch and ops check. Those well nuts really bother me though - 2 are perfect, the other two never expanded...any ideas? If not, I'll RTV the loose plugs in and look for a couple nut plates. If it weren't for the heat I could think it through.

Re:Help on Jacobs Exhaust Brake

Just to clarify -- there should not be a pin in cavity 20, just a rubber plug. If you're trying to remove a pin/wire, you probably are working on the wrong cavity!

Also, I have a PacBrake, so I have no idea what you're talking about with regard to well caps expanding and holding your tongue wrong ???

Re: Clarifying the Clarification

Yer right, of course. I mis-typed. The well nuts are combination bushing/nut plates that fit in the plenum right next to the air cleaner box.

Re:Help on Jacobs Exhaust Brake

The hissing noise coming from the rear of the truck is the sound of the exhaust that is normally semi-free flowing out through the exhaust system now being stuffed through a tiny little opening all around the butterfly valve that you've just bolted into the sustem. Remember the old stuff a potato in the tailpipe thing, this is the same thing only not quite as much fun.
