Help I'm In Trouble!!!!
I am in the midst of replacing my VP. I was pulling the gear and the gear came off the VP shaft ok, but the VP is still lodged in there. How do I get it out???? Please, someone have the answer!
Ok, I got it out, but now I see the support bracket is broken. Does anyone know what's involved in fixing this? It looks like a
load of work!
It looks like I've got to remove the power steering pump. Does anyone know the procedure?

I can fax you the procedure from alldata.
well, you got to get the new bracket from cummins( pt # 3938707), I got the bracket number off one of the post on here, it's two pieces in the kit. you have to remove the power steering pump, to get the bracket off the block, and to get it back on then replace the steering pump. Install the 2nd bracket on the pump and install that, then bolt the two together there is and set on instruction list on here that I used to do mine. You must have this bracket to support the back of the pump or the vibration will shorten the life of the pump.
I just got back from Cummins with the new part. It's much sturdier than the original. I guess they were having problems with the 98.5-99 trucks, so the changed the part. As far as the power steering unit is concerned; is it going to make a huge mess when I remove it? Anybody got any tips?

I seperated the vacuum pump, where the o-ring is (it was leaking anyway), so I'm going to replace that while I'm at it. Got the new bracket on, but now I've got to go to Dodge to get the o-ring ... or is this something I can get at any autoparts store?
Dodge doesn't sell that part seperate, they always say you have to replace the entire pump. But from posts I've see on here, you can get the seal at any good industrial supply house. It's a double lipped Viton seal, size 28x38x7.

EDIT: Had the wrong seal size

I checked out the old seal and it seems fine. What do you think?
Now I'm having problems with the new bracket. I can't get the thing to line up! What gives??? Has anyone done this bracket before?

If you're talking about the vacuum pump, I think I read here that it slips on down till that last 1/8". Then you just have to work it around till it finally slips the rest of the way down. I wouldn't draw it down using the nut.
