Help With Front Seal

I need help with this front seal. When I pulled the timing cover it came off in 2 pieces. There is a seal in the cover still, but this other seal (second seal?) came off and fell on the floor. I wasn't watching for it and did not see how it was installed. I am ready to put it back on now and am not sure how this "second" seal goes on.

See pics.

Thanks,
Chris

I would think that the "second" seal is something that somebody added. If you want to put it back in just put the spring side to the inside.

OK, I installed it by putting it on the crankshaft after installing the timing cover, the same direction as it is laying in the first picture, lip side in/down.
I'll find out tomorrow if it leaks or not. (fingers crossed smiley here)

That is a dust seal. I haven't done the timing cover, but it looks exactly like the set-up used on the 4wd hubs. When you get a seal kit with the bearings, they usually come with that. As long as it is not damaged or set-up or deformed, you can re-use it. I'm pretty sure you re-installed it correctly. If it was a little distorted, I wouldn't swet it too much, it sound like you were just successful on a 50-50 bet.
