HELP!!! 97 dodge won't start
HELP!!! 97 dodge won't start
I got home last Sat. and shut my 97 dodge off anf it was running and starting fine. I went to leave 2 nights ago and it wouldn't start. It cranks like crazy but won;t turn over. I cleaned the air filter, check the injector lines for tightness, and changed the fuel fitler. Still won't start!! What the heck is wrong?! I've got a load of horses to haul tonight and really need o get this thing going!
Re:97 dodge won't start
fuel shutoff solenoid.
find its location on the engine. its located near the fuel pump where the fuel plate is.
turn the key on, pop your hood, and manually activate it.
someone else will helpyou locate it, im in a hurry right now. if noone has helped you by the time i get back. ill run a pic down for you.

Re:HELP!!! 97 dodge won't start
I had the same thing happen to a 96. It turned out to be the fuel shutdown relay to the shutdown solenoid. The relay is located on the firewall driver side. The solenoid is located on the driver side of the block. I was able to bump the starter and leave the switch on then raise the hood and lift the arm on the solenoid and crank it again and it would start. The relay cost about $47.00 + tax at NAPA auto store.
I hope this helps

Re:HELP!!! 97 dodge won't start
I don't know if you manually pumped up the fuel on the lift pump or not. These trucks are notorious for getting a leak in the return line where it leaves behind the injection pump.
If it is leaking you will see fuel underneath the truck on the frame and tranny etc, but you will probably never see any on the ground.
It leaks and allows the fuel to drain back to the tank and then the engine will not start. Push that prime button till you think you can't push it anymore, and then do it again!, you might be close to getting it there.
The hose is a real bear to replace, and if you do it, don't waste your time by using regular rubber hose again. Get a high quality steel braided fuel line that will not be affected so much by the heat, as the rubber hose is 1/2" from the block.
This often is the cause for a No start condition in the 12 valve trucks.
Good luck!
