Help with an 2002-3500

Ok got issues and I need help. My 05 is headed into the shop for injectors so I went to borrow my father in laws 2002 3500 dually. He just passed away this week and the mother in law said to take it and use until I can afford to get my done. Here is the problem, got in to warm up the truck this morning from it setting in the farm shop since Monday, defroster started making grinding sounds then quit before I could get it shut off. What do I look for first? I am limited on time with the funeral but I have got to get the truck up and going before it gets cold again Friday. I have already checked the fuses, what should I check next? or should I just head to the parts store and get a blower motor, relay, or what I just need some advice. I am a little stressed out between the death of FIL, my truck and now this!!! thanks.

Probably just a dry bearing on the blower motor. I don't believe they are hard to replace. It;'s on the inside passenger side, under and behind the glove box. Just a power plug, a ground plug, and three Phillips screws. It can be changed in minutes at the parts store parking lot. Sometimes they'll be quiet for awhile but eventually it will need to be replaced.
