Unhappy Headlight problems! Where to start?

First thing is to thank all the people that post here. THANKS! This site has been my primary source of info for upgrading my truck. Lots of great info and links to help focus the fuss a little.
Here is my problem...Started after the truck sat (while I was 18 months in the sand). My wife ran the truck once a week to work to keep it lubed up. Hi beam headlights come on when you honk the horn? and the horn comes on when you turn on the hi beams?? Checked the column for bare wires and found nothing. I have also just replaced the batteries with new red tops. Everything looks really good, even under the dash. No corrosion, no bare wires. Now, the other day we went out with the truck and the low beams will not come on at all? I have marker lights and dash lights. I am stumped. Internal light switch problems? Grounding on the light harness? Hi beams still come on with the horn! Where should I start? I hate chasing electrical problems.

I believe there is something called a "clock spring" in the column that breaks and causes these types of problems. You need to pull the steering wheel to get at it.

Grounds.

Also check an grounds you can find for corrosion or no contack to bare metal. The big three were bad about that.

Thanks for the tips. I will dig into it this weekend. See what I come up with. Never thought about the spring being broken. Is there any chance of the airbag deploying if I start pulling it apart? With the batteries disconnected? Don't want to take that chance if it can be avoided.

Better check a manual for proper steering wheel removal. There is a ground wire behind the left kickpanel, near the e-brake, that causes problems.
