Hard starting

My 2001 6 speed truck will not start when the engine is warm after a long drive... I just cranks... but I can pull start it and it runs fine... Any suggestions... I ran codes and it showed P0216 (injection timing control circuit malfunction) Does any one know what the **** that means and most important how to fix it???

Replace the Fuel Injection Pump, fuel filter and transferpump. You'll be good to go.

It means if you can turn wrenches about $2,000 to $2,500 (if you shop around for parts). If still in doubt do a search on here about that code and read up on it for a couple of hours and then you will also know where to purchase both pumps and filters. You'll also do yourself a big favor by installing a fuel pressure gauge. Don't be cheap and replace VP without verifying fuel pressure. If you are not confident in your wrench skills, then it will save you some reading, but cost a bit more at your local cummins shop (or highly recommended diesel shop). Sorry your first post deals with such a sore subject. Also fill in signature and profile and someone may be near you that can lend a helping hand.

I contacted a local diesel repair shop and they were able to tell me the problem over the phone... It seems the aftermarket lift pump I put in puts out to much pressure flooding my truck... The tapped into my ground wire on the pump an wired it to a solenoid and then to my oil pressure switch... Problem solved... Thanks for the replys...

Hmmmmmmm, high pressure lift pump forces too much fuel past the injection pump prior to engaging the starter and floods the engine. Glad I have a 12 valve, I'd never have guessed that could happen.
