GVW Question

My truck was used when I got it and was repainted (does not have the door sticker) Anyhow I need to buy a steering gear for my truck and all the parts guys ask me if it's for a 7,500+ GVW or less. I don't know, so I called numerous Dodge sealerships and asked them to run the VIN and tell me, and the response was the same "we can't do that" or "I don't think we can do that" I need to know which steering gear to buy!!! Anybody know what to do, short of buying one, trying it and returning it?!?!

Thanks
Tom

I believe the info you need is located on the sticker beside your driver's door catch. That's where it is on mine.

As I mentioned above said sticker is missing!?!?! Sorry bout the confusion. I don't know if it will help but I have got the Dana 80 in the rear and the 60 up front, and when I called a Dodge dealership a while ago they said it was the heavy duty 3/4 ton (I know it sounded stupid to me too, no kidding!) Anyhow I am at a loss right now!

Thanks
Tom

Your 94 2500 HD has a 8800 lb GVWR........7500 lb GVWR is for gassers only........you have a 4850 lb GAWR in the front and a 6500 or GAWR in the rear........the rear is a very conservative weight......the tires are the true limiting factor.

There is no reason why the dealer can't get the GVWR info from your VIN........ ..........The VIN is often required when ordering certain parts from the dealer.
