Going to purchase this stater in one hour....

Anyone have any feedback on the Power Master 9053 starter for a 94 dodge?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

I tried new contacts in my starter last night and still has issues. New battery cables and red top batteries. Would NAPA carry a bettery starter than the Power Master?

thanks....

I just go off the phone with NAPA and they can get me new lifetime warranty starter for $190.00 with my company discount. So now I have to weigh the lifetime warranty and $190.00 versus a higher torque starter for $50.00 more and only a one year warranty... How long do starter last on these CTD's??

Depends on how often you start it
Friend who does a bunch of city short trips daily Napa starter lasted only two years, they gave him a new one.
Both my trucks have the original starters, never touched with 12 years and over 225k each. My trips are long.

Good point Infidel..... ha ha.... I just installed the Power Master. Starts under 1/2 second. Lot of torque.. I figured if Napa gives a life time warranty on their starters I guess they don't plan on them lasting very long......

Thanks for the reply...

Am I missing something here? They offer a lifetime warranty......so that means the company doesn't plan on the starters lasting very long.....?

If I knowingly manufactured an inferior product I don't think I'd be sure to sell it with a lifetime warranty! Perhaps just the opposite, so I'd stay in business and get additional satisfied customers coming in to purchase other goods.

D2 Cat in my opinion lifetimes warranty are a selling point based on people not owning their car or truck long enough to actually have to warranty the part. Just look at all the parts Kragen sells with a life time warranty. And most of those parts are not quality built.

Yeah no joke that gets old! I had an alternator on my mustang and I changed it every 2 months. I finally said the heck with it when the last one went out and had it rebuilt by a pro and so far several years later still workin great!

I have an AutoZone life time starter in my 99. I've "won" twice now......the rest of the story is that I have 10 miles on my shoes that don't show on the odometer. haha

It was about $200

Be careful on those "lifetime warranties". I bought a lift pump from Oriellys with a lifetime warranty but what they don't tell you is the original carries the lifetime warranty and then the replacements fall under normal warranty (usually 1 year). Read the fine print.

After replacing a few starters in the same truck, I went to a new bosch. I've got 2200 CCA behind it and it cranks harder and faster than anything. Bosch just revised their warranty to lifetime as well. Price was a sticking point but the jam really sold it.

I've "re-replaced" a couple of NAPA lifetime starters. Most recent one was only a few months old and it was "dragging" pretty hard. I will say that I did get some really nice contacts from that one before sending it back.

Right on the money. Lifetime warrantied parts from parts stores are a waste of money and labor. You will be replacing it very often.

The power master starter I purchased starts my truck super fast even when it is extremely cold out. I opened it up to check the starter contacts and they use the upgrades starter contacts. Great starter in my opinion. Starts my truck like it is a 4 cylinder....

The OEM starter is pretty stout.

Once it starts clicking, put in the contacts. If they have been done before, check the bearings/bushings, and brushes.

Lube everything appropriately during reassembly.

You can normally tell when a starter is going to fail, and avoid getting stranded places.
