Fuel Woes

Hello,

My 2006 Cummins is the first diesel I have owned. A few minutes ago I purchased $60 (75.5) gallons of fuel and went on my way. I quickly noticed an unusual rattle and 4 miles later dicovered that the attendant (no self serve in Oregon) put in gasoline. My RPM was about 1200-1500 during this time. What damage has this posssibly caused to my engine? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds pretty cheap for that volume of gas.You could have fried your injectors. Gas is dryer than diesel.Drain tank and refill with diesel and pour in some lubricity conditioner, lots of it. Or 2 stroke oil.

I am concerned about the injectors as well. I am going to have it towed to the shop, drain fule, flush and have it inspected. Also wondered about head gaskets.

Do you have the receipt? If so I would call the place that you bought the fuel from and let them know what happened. I would have it towed to the dealer and let them know about what happened, they will have to drain the tank, flush the entire fuel system, and maybe even relpace your injectors, lp, and cp3. It won't be cheap, but make sure that you don't do it cheap, it could come back to haunt you later.

I was going to head down there to buy some at that price for the car. I have seen lots of gas put in tractors by mistake, and have never seen a headgasket problem. Injectors and the odd diesel pump have gotten burned out. Good luck and talk to the manager at the filling station. , might get your repairs paid for. (If any are needed)

Thanks for the input. The attendant fueled the tank, I have my receipt and have notified the fuel Co. which is locally owned. I am meeting with them tomorrow am and the truck is being towed to the dealership as well. I hope no damage was done but if so, will be very diligent with evaluation and repairs. What a deal... just turned 36,000 miles. Thank you again.

Oregon Mega: Just a sidebar. In Medford the attendant started putting gas in mine. Luckily (since I take the locking gas cap off myself) I was still out of the truck and caught him. I sort of joked with him about the cost of repairs, he caught an attitude and told me they wouldnt be responsible because it is legal to pump your own diesel in Oregon. Turns out its true. You can pump your own though a few stations have their own no pump policy. I now avoid them (when in OR) and only hit the stations I can self serve at.

I've never fueled up in Oregon but if I had to use an attendant I'd ask to smell the nozzle first. I do this as a matter of course anyway even when refueling myself. I also watch the color of the fuel as I start the pump. I'm taking no chances .

I also am a nozzle sniffer. Looks weird but better safe than sorry.
