fuel transfer pump problem????
fuel transfer pump problem????
98 dodge ram 2500 w/ 24 v engine i was running low on fuel when i thought i ran out after puting 10 gal's of fuel and filling the fuel filter. i opend the blead screw on top of the fuel filter housing and when i cycle the ignition to activate the fuel transfer pump i do not get any fuel out of the bleed screw but i can hear and feel the pump doing somthing but i am cot getting any fuel to the filter.
try opening the top of the fuel filter housing and crank but do not start the pump should run for 25 seconds do this a few times and see if you can get any fuel out of it. if you do then loosen the line at the number one injector and crank away after you plug the top of the fuel filter. and you should eventually get fuel out of it. tighten the line back up and start cranking some more. DONT USE EATHER. it will cause the cylinders to dry up and can cause fires do to the grid heater. Dont worry about cranking on it for long times the starter will handle it, I have 1st hand experiance with this. If all else fails put a new pump in it and follow the same procudure.

This is the cheapest Cummins lift pump I've seen on the web.
www.hoeslidiesel.com look for internet specials.
The dealers want $300+ for the exact same pump.
Others have used the Carter pump from NAPA as a replacement.
