bleeding fuel lines

I am in the middle of changing my fuel filter...
Drained the filter, unthreaded it, that all went fine...
Primed the new filter with additive, but went I went to replace the filter, I saw that the filter mount had unthreaded and was hanging loose. There is a round flat plastic disc that has an electrical connection to it, and a double male fitting, one side has an o ring and the other side is tapered. Which side of the fitting goes into the filter and which side into the block? Which direction does that plastic disc face? One sie is plastic and the other is metal.....
Well, by trial and error I figured that out... sprayed alot of deisel around the garage too...

Now it wont start, think I got air in the lines...
whats the procedure for bleeding them?

Crack open the fuel line from the injection pump to the filter, and push on the primer bulb down on the lift pump until the cows come home. Once it starts bleeding fresh fuel and no air at the feed line to the injection pump, close the opened fitting and give it a start with the starter.

If you have really air locked it, you may have to get someone to crank the starter while you crack open the pressure lines on the tops of the injectors. Be careful with this, as the fuel can blow right through your skin and kill you. Do the manual prime before you try this, or you will make it worse.

You also do not need to bleed more than two or three of the injector lines, and it will start and run rough and will eventually purge itself.

I
got it running, I guessed at cracking the lines above the injectors, loosened them to finger tight, then cranked untll there was fuel coming out the top of the fitting and retightened them. Made quite a mess but it worked.
