fuel filter
hey guys, just changed the fuel filter. i didnt have anything around the house that was clean enough to put some diesel in to top off the canister. drained it, put new filter in, tightened the lid back up, and bump the starter 5 times. lp is running what sounds to be ok. you could hear it cycling good. then it sounded like it would load up pushing fuel back into the canister. after it would stop running, you could hear what sounded like fuel still draining into the fuel filter canister. truck wont start. i dont know what to do. do i need to crack any fuel lines, if so, which ones. or do i just need to keep bumping the starter to continue to fill the canister up. any help is greatly appreciated. got to use the truck to pick up my uniform for the ball today, so kind of in a hurry. thanks semper
Bump it 3-5 more times just for good measure, then crack injector lines 1 and 3 and crank (limit to 15 seconds w/15 min cool downs between tries), and she'll fire. She'll run horrible for the 1st few seconds and squirt diesel everywhere. Once she begins to run, you can shut it down, tighten the injector tubes (no more than 24ft-lbs) and start her back up. If you don't let it run a while with the injectors open it will still turn over quite a bit before it fires, but it should fire within 5-10 seconds of cranking. I have to do mine this way with each filter change.
you need to crack the lid a good bit and allow fuel to spill out over the top while turning key to run, after it spills over the top, tighten back up, turn to run again once, then wait for lift to stop running, then start the truck, if that doesn't work, then you will have to crack the lines, hopefully filling the filter will get ya running, you do need to loosen the lid about a full turn or more to get the fuel to spill out. good luck, changed mine this past week , no trouble
Filter change
Hi guys,
What I've done, before putting in the new filter, is fill the housing about 3/4 full of Seafoam. Then, install the filter, and add more Seafoam, if needed to finish filling the housing. Then, put the cover on, and start up the truck. No need to wait for pump to fill the housing, and truck takes right off.
Plus, I figure the Seafoam cleans the system a bit, as it's being burnt off.
Seafoam is (I think), available in most automotive supply stores.
