Front Driveshaft

I'm replacing my front U-joint after reinstalling my Tranny and T-Case

Bought a new U-joint from NAPA removed the two internal snaprings holding u-joint on driveshaft Yoke, popped the new U-joint onto the driveshaft, reinstalled the two c-shaped snap rings put the other end on the diff yoke, but there are no snaprings or anything to otherwise hold the u-joint cups onto the diff??? How is that supposed to work?? Once the saddle straps are tight the joint can still slip back and forth.

(I don't know how it was before as the driveshaft fell off)

There should be two "fingers", one on either side of the yoke, to hold the caps in place. They are only 1/8" tall.

Snap rings should be on the prop shaft side and held in place with saddle clamps on the dif and tranfers case sides. Hope this helps out of the service manual. Thats if i read it correct

Tabs

Like Racer said, the tabs are only about 1/8" high, maybe you have the wrong u joint and it's not fitting in the yoke quite right, can you compare it to the old one to make sure the cups are the same diameter?

My front yoke doesn't have these tabs either. The rear one does, but the front is held in by the strps only. I use brake cleaner and tighten the straps down pretty darn tight so the joint can't move in there. I looked and never saw any evidence of these tabs being broken off.

No tabs...... Figuring I had the wrong U-joint from NAPA I got one from Dodge (more than 3X the price and with no grease fitting) Same deal. The u-joint has 2 different cub sizes. One with internal snap rings that fits on the drive shaft end the one with no snap rings at all is too small to fit the diff and the saddle clamps will not hold the cups tightly.....
