Front Axle

How do I find out which front axle is on my truck?

I hope that a kind member of the DTR will come over here shortly and fetch me some brake rotors. Autozone lists 2 types of axles. 7500 and 8800 lbs. I don't know which one I've got and the rotors are different. ???

Thanks in advance

AlpineRAM

Re:Front Axle

For some reason, I have been thinking that all 2500's with a diesel are the
8800 GVW rating. You should have a sticker on the drivers door jamb with
that information. Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.
I have an 8800# rating, and my front axle is a Dana 60.

Hope that helps.

Re:Front Axle

Alpine the axle in your truck is a HD60F-4500lbs, the other axle they are refering to is a HD44F used in a1/2 or light 3/4 ton. All the diesels have the bigger axle as you probably are about 4300lbs empty on the front. This axle is also standard equipment on Chev 1 tons until 1989 and some parts are interchangable with the Dodge. Ford also used this axle but I am not sure exactly which years as they are not consistant, up to 2000 not all diesel Fords had 60's some had a Dana 50F which is unique to them. You can also see a 60F casting mark on the front of the gear case casting. PK

Re:Front Axle

Changed my rotors last month. 8800lbs. Lots of fun. be very careful with axles,up&down, in & out, % side to side. Now,,, both sides leak oil. > Have not gotten to that job yet. Special tools required. [undecided] Good Luck.
