Flywheel/clutch problem
I just purchased a brand new 2006 3/4 ton quad cab 6 spd cummins
I bought the truck on Monday night, drove it to work on Tuesday then swapped trucks with my buddy(he has a new mega cab) who took my truck to the shop we use for aftermarket stuff. I spent nearly $3000.00 on bumpers frt and rear, window tint, spray in liner, gooseneck, floor mats, 6 step nerf bars and air bags. I picked up the truck on Thursday night and went home. Drove the truck to work Friday morning to load up for a trip to South Texas that afternoon and guess what. Mind you the truck at this point has 385 miles on it, the clutch goes out. What I mean is it won't engage enough to put it in gear (it grinds). I get the truck to my shop where I check the clutch master cylinder to see if there was an air bubble from the factory that it just needed fluid, it's full. I took it to a Dealer in town, not where I bought it, and they get right on it. I will tell you the dealer that has it now is DeMontrond in Conroe (they are awesome) before I could get back to my office 10 minutes from the dealer he tells me they think the hydraulic system is bad. Turns out it's not that, they call me at lunch and tell me they have to pull the trans. They do and then tell me the disc is junk and can't get one until Monday. Then he calls me back later to tell me that STAR warranty says they have to change the flywheel or it will happen again. There must be a problem with them, here is the interesting part. The flywheel is on NATIONAL BACK ORDER, and may take 1 or 2 weeks to get one. What's the deal has anyone heard of this? Don't you think if you pay $40,000 for a new truck I should at least put the first tank of diesel in it before it goes to the shop?

Do a search under the 3rd Gen drivetrain section. You will find some more info on the problems with the dual mass flywheels being used now. Here is one that I was reading.

Too bad you had all that stuff put on it or you could take it back and tell them to keep it. Must have been built on a monday or friday.
You know how that goes
hope all turns out well for you.
