FASS cutting in and out

Hope someone can help me with this as I don't feel like replacing another VP 44. I was driving down the highway today and looked down at my FP gauge it was reading 0. I pulled over immediately got out opened gas cap no fuel coming through return line. I shut the truck off and checked all fuses and connections, everything looked good. I tried cycling key several times to see if FASS would kick in it would not. Great I think stranded on the side of highway. I decide to try and limp the truck to the closest town, bad idea I know. Truck started right up but with no fuel pressure, I start driving slowly and all of sudden FP gauge flutters couple of times and then right back upto where it always runs, about 16 psi at idle. I had about 60 miles to my destination so kept driving watching the FP gauge closely. it fluttered a couple of times but held constant pressure. Any one with any ideas would be greatly appreciated. PS FP gauge is mechanical so I know FASS wasn't running.

If you have a mulitmeter, see if you're getting 12V to the pump when it's NOT running. No voltage? Wiring or relay. Got 12V? Pump is probably toast.

If you have a needle valve in line, be sure it's open enough to allow pressure. For what-ever reason, I have to fool with mine sometimes to get the pressure to stabilize.

Like suggested first, you need to see if you are getting power back to the pump. With it turning on and off like that and running fine the second time, i feel the motor is in good shape. I would eye all electrical connection:

Battery
Relay (Wiggle wires at relay connection)
Pig tail at the motor (Wiggle when running....see if it turns on or off)

One advantage of the FASS is that is has a by-pass that will allow fuel to be drawn through our pump if it shuts down. Meaning it will not become a restriction, like the stock pumps are when they fail. This should keep your VP-44 a lot happier if you have to drive it with the pump off.

Let me know what you find.
