Exclamation F.A.S.S. Filter Replacement Issues

Am in the process of replacing my F.A.S.S. FF with a Fleetguard HF6338. Pretty precise alignment getting it started, but it seemed to thread up nicely for the first few turns. It began to get fairly snug before I thought it would have, but it looked like it was going on fine. I tightened it up as snug as I could by hand; however, it still looked like it hadn't quite bottomed out. As soon as I started the motor, fuel was dumping out everywhere. Has anyone else experienced any issues with replacing the FF. If not/so, should I be cinching down on the FF with a FF wrench, just to get it snug with the housing?

I'm kinda screwed at this point, otherwise. Thanks for any help.

Dan

Don't know if this is relevant to the issue or not, but the outside temp. was in the low 30's today, and the filter was the same temp. Could/would the fact that the metal was that cold, be enough to cause the tightness? Just a thought.

Is the gasket still on the old filter? It may be stuck to the filter mount and therfore pressing against the new filter gasket. This would cause it to lose fuel. In addition, the threads inside the new filter may be out of tolerance or factory damaged. Check the threads on both the new filter and the mount for irregularities.

I would look for the old gasket..

Why go with the 10um filter when there are 3um ones available?

Gasket came off with the old filter. The new FF just seemed to tighten alot sooner than it should have. As I look at the threads on both the FF and the pump, it appears there is some wearing that doesn't look just right. Unfortunately, my crescent wrench does not span quite enough to remove the fitting on the pump. If that is the culprit, I'm hoping I can find a fitting locally or at least get one in quick order.

Regarding the 10 micron vs. 3 micron; I went with the 10 because it has seemed to work just fine and the 3 was quite a bit more (about $60). As it stands, I have most likely ruined the one I just bought, anyway.
