Engine light....

For some reason, my engine light has come on, and I can't seem to figure out why??

I've only got 1200 miles on the odometer......

I was hooking up my new Prodigy brake controller, and noticed that the engine light was on while the motor was running. I thought maybe I tripped something while wiring up the brake controller, but my GF who was in the truck at the same time, said the engine light was on prior to me wiring the controller.

Any reason why this light would come on?? The truck mostly just sits there out at my dads property because I only bought it/use it for hauling a trailer to the dunes.

Anybody else have this happen?? If so, what caused it, and what did you do to resolve it??

Any help is greatly appreciated!

....can you take it to a dealer to get the codes read, or is it a light other than the CEL?

Do the key on/off/on/off/ending in the on position to get the codes off of the odometer. Then we can go from there.

Well, I tried the on off on off on thing, but nothing came up as far as codes on the odometer. Who knows, I probably didn't do it correctly?? I looked in the manual about how to do this, but I could find nothing??

Anyway, I am going to try to take it to the dealership this coming Fri. I am going to have this engine light looked at, get the oil changed, and see what they can do about condensation in the left rear brake light.

Kinda irritating seeing as how this truck is only 6 months old with only 1200 miles on it...

If you did the key on/off three times, and their were no codes, I believe it would show *done* on the odo screen. It does on my 05 atleast. Disconnect the batteries for 30 minutes or so and turn the key on while disconnected, then hookem back up and see if it goes away. My CEL came on after wiring up the smoke switch. Did the battery thing and the CEL was still there, turned it off, and back on again and my CEL was gone. Hope this long post helps.

Thanks for the info! I am taking it in Fri (hopefully) anyway, so hopefully they will be able to let me know whats going on.

Ok, an update....

I took the truck into the dealership last Fri. They said it was a code that was tripped because of excess fuel rail pressure or something like that. Anyway, apparently it was an erroneus error code, and they "re-flashed" it with an update, so hopefully that shouldn't happen again.

Also, my drivers side mirror didn't easily snap into and out of position (trailer towing vs regular position). It seemed real stiff, and not working like the passenger side mirror. The tried lubing it, but that didn't seem to help much, so they just replaced the ENTIRE mirror assy at no charge!!

Overall, I have to say it was a VERY good experience!
Got the mirror taken care of, the engine light prob taken care of, tail light condensation prob taken care of, and also got the oil changed to boot!

Wow, are you sure you were at a dealer? A place that sells new cars/trucks? That's amazing. Glad you got it fixed.

LMAO!!! Yeah I was a little aprehensive about going after hearing all of the horror stories about Dodge warranty work, but they did an AWESOME job IMO!

I will DEFINATELY give them a good review when it comes time for the questionaire/customer satisfaction survey!!!
