engine knock

motor has a knock at idle and thru the rpm band unless you are driving and let off the throttle is dies for a second.oil pressure at idle 30 and driving 60((warm oil) starts with ease, idles perfect no miss at all even if I give a little throttle. pulled valve cover everything moving and not loose. noise sounds like coming from lower part of motor.???? Help when noise starts driving in town no hard throttle, water off,egt normal and rail pressure normal... where to start

The fact that it dies for a second after rpms drop sounds to me like a rod bearing.

Could be a melted piston too? Torque converter bolts?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Have a EOA performed. Will tell if rod bearings, pistons, cyl wall if unsual.
I'm assuming this is a new and loud knock. Not the normal ones that drive owners nutz cuase can't find anything but normal.
Rod knocks get worse fairly quick, so is it getting worse. Also more noise under load. Pistons have a good chance of causing excess blowby. Is there lot of smoke coming out of crankcase breather?
Cylinder wall scored is a scuffing type knock not sharp. Good luck

yes the sound is loud and NOT normal it is not getting worse and the is no blowby like ina cracked ring or bad piston and no smoke out of the breather othe r than the normal stuff. the noise sounds like it is coming from up front of the motor like # 1 or 2 or the front gears.
