There are sensors at the bottom of the battery tray. They monitor the temp of the battery. Could be one of 'em has headed south.

The computer controls the battery charge rate and gets input from the temp sensors along with voltage sensors.

If they go bad, the batteries might not recharge, or might overcharge.

Either could leave you stranded, or be a factor in a battery exploding and showering your engine compartment with acid.

I'd bet it is a Dealer only item.

Thank you for the information. Do you know how to tell which one it is or do I have to replace both? I am new at this diesel thing but learning fast.

Thank you kindly for the code list....I have printed it off and will keep it onboard. nice to have. I have been on the site searching for an explanation of why I just got a "0088" and now I know, but as so often happens, I now have to question "Why"?
Thanks again,
Mike

There is only one battery temp. sensor. It is under the drivers side battery.

Thanks I found that out after taking out the batteries. The ******* tried to sell me 2 telling me there was one under each battery. At $35.00 I told him I would come back if I needed the other one.
