I used the wire behind the interior light dimmer switch. That way your gauge dims when you dim the rest of the lights. Is that what you were looking for?

Tap off the cigaratte lighter, or accessory fuse.

There are quite a few circuits to tap into, I prefer to use the accessory fuse circuit which is empty, that way when ignition is on gauge pods are powered and lit fully(I don't use dimmer- I like it bright and on all the time). If you like it to have dimming feature, then use any light circuit tied into headlight rheostat to power the gauge pod lights.

I used the cig lighter too, I rarely plug anything in there and it's something like 20Amps anyway. You don't want the dimmer for the main lead on there. If you are in fact looking for the dimmer the easiest place is behind the headlight switch itself (like already stated). I think (but don't swear to) it's an orange and brown wire.
Just poke it and function the dimmer on your test light.

How does one tap into this accessory circuit?

On my truck there was a 10 gauge wire, under the load center, pink with blue tracer ( think) that is labeled key/run/acc or something like that///I tapped it and ran new wire to a new fuse block under my dash

Also ran a wire direct from the battery to a fuse block under the dash....No when I need power I hit those....No more splicing into something, unless I want to hit the dimmer

If you're planning on adding accessories, this is the best way to power them up.
No splicing/overloading existing wiring harnesses.
It gives you both 3 Constant hot, and 4 Hot with the key on circuits that are fuse protected.
It feeds straight off the battery through a circuit breaker.

I lloked at those once...You'd still have to tap something to get the key wouldnt you?

I asked David at Diesel Manor.com how many amp's the gauge's pull. He said the 2 amp box's together (pyro and trani) pull less than 1 amp.

Yes one wire under the dash, but it's not a high draw.
Just used to energize the relay.

It avoids all the pigtailed mess and clumps of scotch-loks under the dash that one usually finds when someone is hooking up several accessories.

Yeah thats why I did what I did....Now I can just hit the fuse blocks and not tap/splice anymore.....My stuff cost quite a bit less than the painless kit does

Mine is in the engine compartment on the firewall right beside the brake master cylinder.
Easy to get at, and weather resistant.

Different strokes..........they both work.
