Dodge said my Fuel level sensor doesn't exist, said I need $450 module

I ordered my fuel level unit from Dodge city in La quinta CA phone# 760-564-5070. They sent me Part # 4897669-AB LEVL UNIT 14072002 for $54. So I pulled the tank out and the part they gave me was totally different. I went back to the dealer with the complete fuel pump module out of my truck to show them the part I need so they could order the correct part. They said they cant order the correct part because it isn't in there computer and I have to buy complete module to fix my problem. Is this all a bunch of BS? Does any one have the correct part # so I can do this guys job for him? I even mentioned to the parts guy that the truck mite have a superseded updated intank fuel pump module VS the lift pump on the side of the block. BTW my truck is a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 24v Diesel 2wd Auto. So now I have a non running truck until I find the right part or put the stock stuff back in.

Tons on hand. That part number is for 2001 BR/BE with a 35 gallon poly tank. Fits 1998-2002 model years. List price is 56.60

4897669AB is the part I already received that is incorrect. I have to call a different dealer to see what they have to say.

05/01 is the date on the door tag and I have a quad cab. From what the 2nd dealer said is the unit I have cant be serviced and I have to buy the whole module for $290. Its kind of hard to believe it cant be replaced when the Level unit is made to be easily detached from the module. I guess I'll have to search the junk yards for one now.

Any #'s on the old part? Might have to take the two screws out to look on the back. I'm still coming up with the same number. 435 is retail on the new module. They surely would give you some sort of a brake on that I would hope!

On the old Level unit next to the circuit board it says 88546056 and also A2C52088633. The Fuel pump module had a tag on the top but this morning I sprayed carb cleaner to get the dirt off and it took the ink off the tag. I located a FPM out of a 2000 diesel ram for $100 that is alittle more then an hour away, If I cant find a level unit I'll be going up there on Saturday to see if it will work in my truck.

Sorry, but none of those numbers are getting me anywhere. I can't see where they have changed the module or the sender so I'm confused as to what the difference is from the old one to the new one? If you want, get me the number off of the module, and maybe I can match the sender to whatever number is on the module.

I'll take some pictures of my old module and level unit and post them tonight. Since the tag is no good on the top of the module I found a # on the bottom side of the top part of the mod: A2C53100863 and the 4pin electrical plug that comes up from the FP+FLU and plugs in to the bottom of the top of the mod has 88849-S and 0345-67 printed on the grey plug.

The new unit they sent was different in every way:

The metal float bar had alot of different bends to it.
Plastic housing that holds the circuit board was half the size and grey in color vs Tan.
It was made to mount to the module with a different type of clip.
Wires were sodered to the circuit board in different locations.

Maybe they boxed the wrong level unit? The dealer reordered the item in hopes that the wrong part was in the correct box, its coming in tomorrow.
