Diesel fumes wont go away
Diesel fumes wont go away
Hey guys,
After I had my lift pump and injection pump changed about a month ago, I have had continuous strong raw diesel smell coming from the engine bay.
I have cleaned the engine and looked everywhere I can think, but I cant find a leak. My fuel mileage is much MUCH better than before the replacement so it cant be much of a leak.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem just a couple of weeks ago, check all the injector lines, mine ended up being the line at the back up the motor up against the fire wall, it was not seated properly, loosened it up and reseated it and that took care of the problem. Check the back of the block to see if it is wet, because like you i looked around and did not see any visual signs of fuel anywhere and i was also stumped, hope this helps
About the only place for a fuel leak that you can't see is on top of the bell housing where the metal fuel lines are attached. Sometimes a line will develop a small crack where where the bolt down tab is welded on. The fuel can pool up there and stink but not drip on the ground. You need to crawl under and feel around if it's damp.
When I've encountered leaks in these metal lines rather than replace I just abandon them and run hose all the way from the pump to the tank.

Thanks guys for the replys!
I work out of state, no computer access there, so I am sorry I haven't replied. CTD2001, it was right where you said it was. I couldn't see it so I just reached back there and loosened it, then tightened it. Cleaned the motor again and no more smell.
Thanks again!
