Died and won't start

I was leaving my house this morning when my truck suddenly died and now it won't go at all. It started fine then just started losing power and died.
I can pump the accellerator and it will sometimes start but runs real rough and the RPMs will not come up at all and will eventually die. I casn bleed the fuel filter through the bleeder on the bottom and it seems to have alot of pressure on it. Could this be a fuel filter problem? We had a few fuel shortage days right after Hurricane Rita and I could have gotten some trash in my tank from the service stations running empty tanks.

I would say change your filter, I believe you have a prefilter also that you should check/clean/replace, make sure you've got all the air bled out of the filter/housing. Then crack 3 injector lines and crank untill you've got fuel spitting out. Tighten them try to start, if it still won't start crack the other three and crank untill fuel spits out, then try to start again. If thats not it, you may need a fuel return pressure relief valve. I think thats what its called, and I'm not totally sure on what happens when they go bad but this may be.

I would bet that you have a dirty filter though. Did it smoke a different color at all?

It was the fuel filter.
It would puff black smoke when it was just barely starting. I changed out the filter and got her to fire right up. It's been running kinda rough for a while but I only really noticed it when stopped in drive or reverse. It was acting like the T.C. was trtying to stay in full lock. It would sit there and just shudder like mad.
I never really had noticed the power loss until it crapped out on me today. It's obvious now though that I had been under powered for a while. That thing is running like a race car now!
So where is the prefilter on this truck? I don't guess I've ever seen it before.

Hmmm never knew it was there. I guess I should take a look at it. Could be a little restriction there.
