Deployed and family needs help

My Fellow Diesel Friends

I am currently Deployed to Afgan and I have received a msg from my wife that the Family 2005 2500 Cummins is having problems. It is my wife and kids back up ride and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Problem: My wife says that when she starts to drive Fwd it makes a hallow metal on metal sound and there is a check engine light. She says it dose not make the sound while in park or REV. She explained it like some one dragging a pipe down the street but there is nothing hanging from the bottom of the truck....I was wondering if the tranny could be going out.

Any Help will be a blessing especially since she is worried she broke the truck and that I would be up set. I just want a good working truck for the family while I am in Afgan. Thanks again

P2509 is a loss of power code. I get it once a month, and I probably need to replace the batteries. I have researched this and people say it could be a sensor or new batteries. The grinding noise? Maybe your front u joint? Mine went out and made more of a chirping noise, or it could be a brake issue. Sorry I can't be more help.

It could be the brake pads. the front brakes have scrapers that make noise when the brake pads get too thin. The noise is a high pitch squeal when moving. Raise the wheel up and spin it wit you hand.

See if the noise goes away when she gently steps on the brakes, if so it could be the wear indicator on one of the front pads. Sometimes a small rock jammed between the backing plate and the rotor can make a horrible noise. Going in reverse frees the rock until it gets caught again while driving forward.

if the truck wasn't driven regularly it is most likely the rust on the brakes it will make the noise in forward only try driving around then block at slow speeds applying the brake it will change in pitch if it is the brakes and will go away if driven to get groceries and back .
