Dead on the side of the road
OK, today I changed the oil and oil filter and ran the truck for about 10 minutes, no problems, sounded and ran good. Didnt touch anything else.
Left for work at 2300 tonight, she fired right up and ran fine.
Got about 10 miles down the road and she started loosing power. I was going about 55 in 5th gear and she started slowing, even when I put my foot to the floor. Downshifted to 4th and power came back up. Shifted back in to 5th and seemed to be fine.
Made it about another 5 miles and she just died. Wont restart at all.
Checked oil filter and level, no leaks level is good.
Acts like it is out of fuel, but I know I have a little over half a tank. I have a aux tank and cross-over switch installed, but have never used them.
Checked the water in fuel drain and got a good flow outof the fuel filter for asecond(she wsnt running).
ANy thoughts? I am going to try changing teh fuel filter( hopefully its just clogged, been about a year since I changed it), but I have a gut feeling that isnt the problem....any suggestions? My baby is sitting in a Kwik-shop parking lot, and I dont want to leave her there too long..this is my only vehicle....The BOSS had to come get me and she aint happy!
I'm gonna have to drive her gasser to work and she hates me driving it..
91 non-intercooled, non-modified, basic truck....

Sometimes it will look like its plugged in ok, but might not have a GOOD connection. Maybe with some pliers bite down on the connector, then stick it back on. After you know you have a good connection, if that doesn't help, try changing the fuel filter. Prefill the filter with diesel fuel or diesel fuel additive.

I checked that it was connected, but in the dark with no tools, I didnt realy try to do much. Waiting till I get off work in the morning and going back when its light.
Question , just to make sure I understand this stuff correctly...
If the LP is gone, it should still run, but have low fuel pressure? if the IP is gone, there will be no fuel at the injectors? If its just the filter being clogged there would be no fuel at the IP?.....

The stop/start/run solenoid is 'behind' the fuel injection pump above the fuel lines. The ksb solenoid is on the driver side of the fuel pump. KSB is not important when it comes to this. Just make sure you have the correct wire on the stop solenoid. Lay them out and see which one looks as though it would reach the ksb etc.
If the LP is gone, most likely it should continue running. If the IP is gone, no fuel at the injectors correct. Fuel filter clogged, less fuel to the IP, but doubtful it would completely shut off the flow to the IP. If stop solenoid unplugged or bad connection, or bad solenoid, then very little to no fuel at the injectors while cranking.
I take it your truck cranks, but won't start yes?

I checked the wrong connection then....

Ok She is on the road again!!!!!!
Thanks for the help guys... this site is great!!!!!
I got the filter off, got the heater back on correctly, primed a new filter with additive, put a ring connector on the shut off selinoid wire and secured it with the little nut already there, charged the battery most of the day and bled each line at the injector...she fired right up....so not sure which issue caused the original problem.
THANKS again for all the help...CD

Contrary to what some may believe, a clogged fuel filter will shut these things down. My old 89 started acting funny one day up in Petersburg. Just did have enough power to get it into a mall parking lot. Changed the fuel filter and she was good to go again.
