I dunno... where is he at? Has he just looked under the truck? Done a visual inspection of the tank/filler neck?

I've never had the problem. Was he at one of the high flow pumps made for tractors. Could be an issue. Also, does he use any additives. Sometimes the bottles can drop the little cardboard disks down in their causing issues. Also, his vent tube could be clogged, not allowing air to leave the tank as he adds fuel. If this is the case, he is going to have to drop the tank and fix the vent tube.

Have him look down there and see if it is the flapper that is also stuck mostly in the closed position. If you want to get that little flapper out of the fill neck, Just pull the filler neck off. Some screws attach it to the fender, and up underneath there is a hose attaching it to the tank. You can remove the clamps and pull the top part out without dropping the tank. Also, have heard guys snake a small hose into the tank and pressurizing it and viola, the little disks from the power service bottle come flying out. If he drops the tank, he can pressurize it to see if the vent tube is clogged. If it is (it sits down about 6 inches), he can cut that off. It may eliminate the clog, and will allow him to fill the tank within 1-2 gallons before the pump clicks off (right now it will click off 5-6 gallons before it is full). Hope it helps,

now it sounds like the camshaft position sensor (cps). there was a recall on this a few weeks back. this will cause the engine to run rough, just quit, etc. One sign of a failed cps is your tach will not move while cranking the engine over. ask your dad to check that out!

On the CPS failure, I've never had a check engine light. Tach is the big indicator. Could be a couple of things, for the $27.00 bones for the CPS it might be a good idea to replace it, esp if he hasn't complied with the recall. 10 MM open end wrench, about 5 minute process. located on the front of the motor, easier to get to it from underneath the truck. Just out of curiosity what temp has it been when your Dad has had the issues? Is it cold enough to start to gel? Is it been running rough on start up? Could be Glow Plug Relay, possibly leak down of the High Pressure Oil Pump... (neither will normally give you a check engine light). He needs to get a scan tool and run the codes. Sounds like a ICP/ICR issue or possible bad injector O rings..
