Question Come on Guys I need help....

This is my plan .... install a 4bt 3.9 cummins on my 1998 f100 and squeese the most MPG and power avaliable on it ....AT the same time have a quieter set up avaliable.....so freelance American ingenuity please get me a hand....

I didn't know you could still get an f-100 in 1998 That aside, there's just the trouble of fabbing motor mounts and deciding on a tranny. A custom driveshaft will have you in business. I would think you could squeeze 200-250 reliable rwhp out of a 4bt and still maintain good fuel economy, depending on your choice of tranny, rear gears and tires. The only other concern is if local emissions laws will require your 98 chassis to have the same emissions it's always had...that could get tricky. I wish you luck, and...

You can get the full package needed to install the 4BT in your rig by scavanging the engine, transmission, and radiator (intercooler too, on the later models) from a used delivery type van. Check around for a wholesaler of used vans used by the potato chip and snack food industry. You will want the mounts from the donor rig, and will need to fabricate frame perches for everything. Easy, but time consuming.

You will not get quiet with the 4BT, it is a real vibrator, rattler, and noisy. They are inherently rough running and have a tendency to shake things loose at a much faster rate than the smoother 6.
