CODES 480 and 483
I recently had the dealer put a water pump and belt tensioneron my truck. Now, all though my check engine light DID NOT come on, by cycling the key 3 time's, I'm getting code's 480,(cooling fan 1 control circuit malfunction) and 483 (cooling fan rationality check malfunction). The dealer said it's nothing to do with them changing the water pump. I hate to spend the $100 if it's just from them unplugging the fan and will go away. But on the other hand, I only have 800 mile's left on my warranty. Has anyone had these code's. If so, what was the problem. Thank's.

$100? If your under the factory 3/36k then you shouldn't pay a dime. I'd take the truck to auto zone and have them clear the codes and see if they come back. I can guarantee that unless they were there before the dealer messed with it that they put the codes in there by doing something.

Do not worry about the codes. If you had a waterpump problem that allowed the temperature to get above the normal range, those codes will set and wait for the overtemp sequence before they kick in the check engine light.
I expect they will reset and clear, or if they occur enough in the sampling period, and your engine temp gets high, they will turn the check engine light on. Then you will need to have it scanned.
The most likely cause of the codes is the cooling system was not fully filled before the engine was started after the pump was replaced. This is a common situation, and that is why you always check and add more coolant after the engine is brought up to full operating temperature once it has been drained.

I think the dealer changed a water pump that was good. The reason they changed it, something was making a hollow sound. They assumed it was the water pump. Then, they changed the belt tensioner. I think that was the real problem. But who know's. My truck never has run hot. I'll go along with the filling routine though. Guess I'll get the code's cleared and keep my eye on it. Just have to watch them mile's too before I hit that dreaded 100,000. Thank's guy's.

What about water getting in the engine compartment. My serpentine belt has already started squeaking from too much water. Do you have the same problem?
I will get some pics soon.

I doubt very seriously if the squiling is from water getting in. You probly have a bad belt tensioner. I only get a few drop's if that. I get more on the engine from opening the hood when it's wet.
